Thermae

thermae.jpg

The Thermae has been around a long time and comes and goes in popularity but continues to be a major freelancer destination for lower Sukhumvit. The place is dingy, offers no real entertainment besides lots of girls looking for action. Best to get there after 10 and take a seat to let the girls move around you. The Japanese have discovered the place which some people may complain that it is pushing up the prices but in reality it is bringing the girls back. Loitering outside after closing is also good fun since most of the girls will hang around a bit after closing to see what scraps they can pick up.

Passed by the Thermae three time in the past ten days.

I was walking by at 8:30 pm Monday and say so many ladies outside that I had to check inside. Saw the normal weekday crowd. A bit disappointing so finished my beer and left.

Last night, I drove by in a taxi at 10 pm and say more ladies outside then I’ve ever seen. Will need to do another walk through before the planes start landing.

Popped in last night for a drink on my walk home.

There are some hotties in there but not a ton. I think it is the format I don’t like. U have to really focus on the girls if you expect to take one home. The Japanese are quick about grabbing the hotties and walking out. Some don’t even bother getting a drink.

Prices seems to be more than most of the freelancer joints based on the quotes I was getting. The girls were also a bit clinical about the definitions for short time and long time and all that.

Either way I just don’t like the vibe even though there were a few, but not a ton, hotties floating around.

A fun place to pop in for a quick drink or two. Not a place to spend any appreciable amount of time. Strictly business in here. As the description mentions, the place has gained a reputation amongst the Japanese. I’ve only ‘taken-away’ once from here and that was strictly business as well. One pop for short time then she ran to the shower, dressed, collected her fee and winged it out the door.

A friend of mine who frequents the establishment introduced me to the tactic of entering through the back door. My preferred method of entry now as you avoid the inevitable convergence of eyes upon you if you were to come in through the front. To get in the back, walk up the front steps of the building, through the lobby/hall and look for the stairs back on the left. You’ll often have to pass by the girls who are either too shy or too young to get in who like to loiter near the back entrance.

Thermae is fun for a quick visit and there has been an appreciable improvement in the quality of girls recently, though the cream of the crop have a yen for the big-spending Japanese. Farangs should sit in the half of the bar nearest to the entrance; the other half is the Nippon sector.
The game is to establish eye contact with those who take your fancy while avoiding it from some of the desperate slappers who have been haunting Thermae for decades.
Drinks are very reasonably priced, with most beers at 80 baht, and the service from the mainly male waiters is extremely slick. Avoid the 60-year-old former waitress who still goes there every night to administer massages and beg drinks. I bought her a drink five years ago and she has never forgotten. She spends so much time around me that everyone assumes she is my girlfriend.
