Good burgers, reasonable prices, no whole wheat bread served for breakfast so I bring my own but would gladly pay extra for it if it were available.
Relaxed no hassle atmosphere.

It was a Friday night after work and the place was busy. There was a very good vibe, with lots of cute girls and happy customers and good music. After settling in over a few cold beers and waiting for one my drinking buddies to turn up, I checked out the menu. The food, especially the burgers is every bit as good as every one say’s they are – Smitty – you really, really, REALLY need to get that home delivery going!!!!!
My drinking buddy finally turned up and this was when the fun started. We had originally planned to head down to NEP and see what was happening, but we cracked open a bottle of jack and started talking to the girls, who were all good fun and very entertaining. The rest of customers also having a good time and while place does have a definite locals drinking hole feeling about it, everyone is very friendly and welcoming. We had such a good time that we ended up staying and were finally poured out the door at closing to a waiting taxi.
The check bin at the end of the night was reasonable and good value considering we got the beers, the food, the bottle of jack + some lady drinks and those evil, evil mango nipple shots.
I am not a huge fan of Nana and as a rule I don’t drink anywhere near the place, but the Big Mango is fun and good place to end the week – or ruin the weekend

Earnest men discuss sports and politics while casting an eye over to the pool table where girls are bent over cueing up their shot. ‘What a truly inspiring cue rack on the wall’ the men think to themselves while wondering whether or not to chat up that almond eyed lovely in the corner with her friends (tip: she’ll say yes!)
The bar girls are faultlessly professional (I know, because one of them told me so) and beautiful (she told me that too) – they make your visit something you will treasure for the rest of your life. You return the next day convinced that something so wonderful must have been an illusion – but no – it wasn’t.
Stepping outside the bar and walking down the street you happen upon all the darkness and depravity that Bangkok has to offer – and that’s just the 7/11 convenience store.. Venturing further down soi 4 anything and everything you can imagine is there for the watching or for the taking – it’s your call. If your eyes have bulged too much, if your jaw is resting on your belt buckle (or if you have been particularly proactive and you are drained of bodily fluids) make your way back to the Big Mango bar – where everybody – ok, somebody - knows your name

The Nana location was a bit of a hassle at times because of the location and the go-go girls from the other bars grabbing at you and otherwise trying to block you from entering the bar.
That problem is long gone with the new location. Although it might be a bit difficult to find on your first visit (look for the small Soi almost directly across from the 7-11) I like the new location better as the immediate area is cleaner (in my opinion NEP is akin to a ram shackled house that needs to be bulldozed) and you don’t need to yell to be heard above the noise from 5 different sound systems).
Inside the new Mango, the interior reminds me of some of the neighborhood bars around Rush Street in Chicago or the old pubs in Boston: Exposed brick and mortar with concrete floors. They’ve got 1 pool table downstairs and two upstairs (there is plenty of space around the pool tables upstairs so perhaps the previous poster was complaining about the table downstairs).
Just like the old Mango, the food here is great. The breakfast muffin is very good (plan on skipping lunch that day) but for me the main attraction is still the burgers and fries (or chips if you prefer). The burgers at McDonald’s seem to be of low quality beef, so if you want a big, juicy burger in Bangkok the Big Mango is the place. The menu doesn’t stop there as there are chicken sandwich, fish, pasta dishes and of course Thai food, none of which have disappointed me.
Since I’m not the tourist type who’s mongering in Bangkok, what I appreciate most about the Big Mango’s new location and atmosphere is that during the day through late afternoon I can meet business associates there and even get some work done beforehand without countless interruptions. The wifi works great and free access to the internet on the computers on the 2nd floor is a bonus. The music is at a level where you can actually enjoy the wide selection of music being played yet still chat with the bar staff or your friends without raising your voice (well, at least until mid evening when the drinking crowd rolls in).
The service staff is good - meaning you don’t have to wait around or interrupt any of the staff from their SMS session to get food or drink. They are very friendly, cheerful and you’ll find some very attractive girls on staff.
Ice cold beer, good music, good service, excellent food, free popcorn, pool and internet. It’s a great place to hang out or to start your evening of debauchery, but don’t be surprised if you stay longer than you planned.

The staff is friendly with some real cuties, the owners nice, and the prices extremely reasonable. The food is outstanding and the place is always clean.
The Mango has three pool tables, IMHO the only one that is in kind of an awkward position is the one downstairs. The tables are nice, and it is FREE! As already mentioned the Mango has three internet computers upstairs, also free. There also I believe four big plasma screen televisions throughout the place that often have an F1 race or the news on. The music is consistently good, and you can even submit requests on the quieter days.
The upstairs balcony is nice, but there is not much to look at but apartments or construction about 10 feet away. It is a bit warm at the moment which would explain most customers desire to sit in the AC.
I have sampled a great deal of the food available on the menu, and almost all of it has been outstanding. The prices extremely reasonable as well. I would have to disagree with Werewolf, the Mango McMuffin is good, but not great, but to each their own. IMHO the real star of the menu is the California burger, in the words of Homer Simpson “This is what Angels must taste like!” One of the best hamburgers I have ever had.
All in all I love this bar!

Instead of a bar that where you pop in and out of between visits to the go gos of the plaza, one inside the newBM you tend to stay inside and drink. It feels a lot more like it’s near neighbors, including the Tavern… that is, a place where locals go to meet and chat over several drinks.
The pool tables are jammed into awkward spaces and the mood tends to be dampened by the small space and stark surroundings. The staff tends to be an attractive and pleasant crew, but they seem to fight an uphill battle to create any real enthusiasm about their jobs, contrary to the previous incarnation of the Big Mango, where the girls were often the highlight. The few girls that have gone into the newBM with me on my visits have been almost unanimous in saying that they found the very ‘male’ decor off-putting. It’s definitely a “guy’s” atmosphere.
The one potential feature of the bar — a large open balcony on the second level — is largely deserted and un-utilized. I can’t help but think that putting a service girl out there with iced beer, margaitas and some decent music might go a long way towards adding some of the missing atmosphere to the bar.
Meanwhile, the three computers with free internet access on the same floor is a great feature. (And for some unexplained reason there is a shower stall inside the second floor bathroom… just in case you start feeling a bit sticky, I guess).
The strengths of the bar, aside from it’s connection to the blog, are its low prices and decent food menu. The star of the menu is undoubtedly the Mango McMuffin - a creation that is possibly the single greatest breakfast item ever sold in a commercial establishment.
The most important asset of the bar is the owners themselves, who are hands-on, friendly and in-touch with the business. Their frequent presence in the bar tends to draw in friends and acquaintances.
The owners have made the Big Mango a brand-name and destination bar through their very popular blog (the FARANG speaks 2 Much) but the new Big Mango will struggle to hold onto clientele that are not devoted blog followers.
Rather than a lively freelancer bar, the Big Mango feels like one of hundreds of small local pubs I frequented in Sydney; largely indistinguishable from any other. A comfortable place to sit and chat with your mates until you’re well-oiled and ready to go home, but lacking any real distinguishing features and a far cry from the old Nana Plaza location.
